Joy is not ordained (1) | opinion

1. When I began to read the texts of this Sunday’s liturgy devoted to joy, I was sad. They are very old texts about even older events, of worlds that are only renewed in fratricidal wars, with gods that are only relevant to justify violence. You don’t seem best placed to wake up in the communities of Sunday celebrations, online activities, motivations, and opportunities to face fatigue, sadness, and depression today. I thought: something like the fourth movement of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony would be welcome!
