An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale was recorded at 11.10 p.m. (0:10 a.m. in Lisbon) southeast of the island of São Miguel, the authorities said on Saturday.
The Azores Seismological Monitoring and Information Center (CIVISA) stated that the epicenter is about 36 kilometers southeast of Faial da Terra on the island of São Miguel.
In a statement, Civisa said that “the earthquake in the parish of Ribeira Quente, Nossa Senhora dos Remédios and Furnas, also on the island of São Miguel, was felt at maximum intensity IV / V on the modified Mercalli scale”.
The earthquake was also felt with intensity II / III in the municipality of Vila do Porto on the island of Santa Maria, he added.
At the beginning of January, an earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale was recorded on the islands of Faial, Pico, São Jorge and Terceira.
