How to Avoid a Climate Catastrophe is the title of Bill Gates’ latest book, published simultaneously in several countries (including Portugal). A “global optimist” with global projects and global prosperity must correspond to a global book with a global reception. In an interview with PÚBLICO (created by Patrícia Carvalho and Pedro Rios) published last Monday, the founder of Microsoft affirmed the need to stop the impending climate catastrophe. As a good optimist, Gates believes that we are in time to avoid this by eliminating greenhouse gas emissions and not achieving carbon dioxide emissions without “changing the standard of living in rich countries”. This, he says, “does not solve climate change”. And to conclude his well-deserved thought, he adds that the goal of reaching the level of rich countries cannot be removed from poor or developing countries. How do you achieve this amazing result? By innovation this says “optimistic about innovation”.
