The university professor and researcher Luís Salgado de Matos, born in Lisbon in 1946, died on Monday evening in the Santa Marta Hospital in Lisbon and confirmed to the PUBLIC the former mayor of Lisbon, João Soares, who had already lamented the death of his friend on the social network Facebook.

The researcher dealt with topics such as state, church and armed forces. Among other things, he wrote The Separation of the State and the Church (2011) and the biography Cardinal Cerejeira (2018).
The curriculum available on the website of the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Lisbon recalls, among other things, that he had a law degree and a PhD in political sociology from the University of Lisbon.
“He has always tried to articulate academic research with observation of the participants. He was a member of the Mozambique Transitional Government. Most recently, he was adviser to Defense Minister Júlio Castro Caldas and President of the Republic Jorge Sampaio, ”it says.
