Covid-19: Ourém offers 10,001 nights to promote tourism tourism

The Municipality of Ourém announced the offer of 10,001 overnight stays for national tourists who spend more than a day in the municipality, in order to promote tourism that suffered breaks in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“With the campaign of 10,001 nights we want to promote the restoration of hotels and the restoration of our community,” said Mayor Luís Albuquerque at a press conference.

The initiative stipulates that the municipality in the Santarém district will buy 10,001 nights in hotels with one to four stars (those in the municipality) and “pay the full cost of one night for anyone staying the second day”.

The campaign is aimed exclusively at national tourists, with the exception of groups, and also includes a voucher of 10 euros for “You can have lunch or dinner in any of the restaurants in the municipality who stick to it”.

Luís Albuquerque announced that the campaign, which runs from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, will not be in effect during the high season: between May 10th and 15th, June 9th and 15th and August 10th and 15th, 2021.

“The motto of the campaign is: One night makes the difference, 10,001 nights make even more. For those who visit, it’s an opportunity to get to know our community better, and it makes all the difference for hotels and restaurants as they will significantly increase their sales volume. It makes a difference for the entire tourism-based industry, ”affirmed Luís Albuquerque.

The community only pays for one night in hotels, leaving out another type of accommodation. The municipality pays 30, 40 or 55 euros for a single room, depending on whether it is a one or two star, three star or four star hotel.

For accommodation in a double room, the supported price is 35, 45, 65 euros, depending on the hotel type.

“We have 755 thousand euros that are only intended for companies. We don’t know how high the liability will be, so if necessary we can reinforce the values in a second phase, ”said the mayor.

This is also a way of attracting tourists to the center of the country, a blueprint Luís Albuquerque adopted before the pandemic: “We have access to a wide variety of types of tourism that go beyond religious quality of life and offer a quieter and more relaxed life experience , quality accommodation and gastronomy, ”he said.
