Nursing students in clinical training will be given priority vaccination against Covid-19 as they face the same risks as other health professionals, the Order of Nurses (OE) said.
OE said the guarantee was given by the new Covid-19 vaccination plan task force coordinator Henrique Gouveia e Melo, who met with President Ana Rita Cavaco and Vice-President Luís Barreira.
At the end of January, nursing students in Portugal submitted a petition in which they were asked to “reformulate the criteria for the vaccination plan against Covid-19 in terms of priority groups and the respective vaccination phase”. “We are present in care, be it in a hospital or in a community. Although we are not yet health professionals, we are exposed to the same risks and contacts,” said the document, in which more than 16,000 signatures were collected .
These questions prompted OE to write to Minister of Health Marta Temido and to the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. In a statement by the OU it said: “She has expressed her willingness to work with the team responsible for the vaccination plan in the hope that this change in coordination will also correspond to a change in the course of the process that has so far been caused by errors and abuses was dominated The OE hopes will not be repeated. “
