Any resemblance between Liverpool, who won in 2019-20, and Liverpool, who defended that title this season, is pure coincidence, and this Saturday the “Reds” suffered their third straight defeat in the English Premier League, Leicester City King Power Stadium was beaten 3-1.
The “Reds” have not lost three games in a row against the championship since November 2014. That defeat was maintained by the black streak in February after losing to Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City. And Liverpool is not only showing weaknesses in February. They have already lost six games and drawn seven in 24 games, with Jürgen Klopp’s team having 23 wins and one draw in the last 24 games last season.
The Reds even scored the 16th goal of the season for Mo Salah in the 68th minute, but a great reaction from Leicester enabled the turnaround. James Maddison equalized on a direct free kick on 78 minutes and three minutes later Jamie Vardy made it 2-1 in a blatant game for Alisson Becker and went to Vardy to score.
With 85 minutes, Harvey Barnes confirmed the triumph of the “Foxes”, who continue to have an excellent season and are now in second place with 46 points. Liverpool are fourth with 40 points and they could lose two positions this weekend – Chelsea and Aston Villa, who are close behind with 39 points, could be overwhelmed.
