Democracy and poison opinion

This week, it was news that Portugal lost the “full democracy” category after moving to the “imperfect democracy” category according to The Economist’s Democracy Index – 2020. The score of this “Democracy Index” with the inherent subjectivity and fallibility is based on five categories: electoral process and pluralism, government function, political participation, political culture and civil liberties. Based on the results of a number of indicators within these categories, each country is classified into one of the four types of regime defined in the report itself: “full democracy”, “imperfect democracy”, “hybrid regime” or “authoritarian regime” .
