If you would like to write stories or press releases for publication in the Valley Bugler, please follow the guidelines below:
- Throw away Typing 101... do not use extra spaces anywhere. After a period, put only one space. Otherwise we have to take them out, and it reduces the chances that we will use your story.
- Use the spell and grammar check of MSWord or Corel Word Perfect. Only keyboard your stories in either Word or Word Perfect and then inserted into an email. We will accept them in no other format.
- Do not use any formatting including tabs and indents. Allow your word processing program to do its returns automatically ... except for the last line of a paragraph. Use a standard return (enter) for that But only one.
- Follow the AP Stylebook for various standards such as: p.m. & a.m.; 7 p.m. or 7:30 for partial hours, but not 7:00; type ‘percent’ not ‘%’; numbers after ten are used in numerals, ten and under spelled out; titles in italic such as Valley Bugler; etc.
- You will greatly increase the potential of us using your material if the information is input and sent via e-mail correctly. We will take them only via e-mail, as an inline message, not an attachment. If you are going to attach a photo, please make it clear that it is being attached. Any suspicious attachments are automatically nuked... to avoid viruses.
- Things that take heavy editing will only be used if we get the time necessary to fix it.
- Our focus is always on good news, community events and activities, and an occasional tall tale. Of special interest are stories in which youngsters and others are doing great things. Stories from young people are also welcomed.
- We would like to hear your story ideas for the Valley Bugler. If you know of some great news, community event, or special story about local people, let us know.
