Columbia Ford celebrates 40th Anniversary with recognition as one of the top Hybrid dealers in nation
April 1, 2012 by Michelle Myre · Leave a Comment

By Michelle Myre
Not only has this local, family owned dealership earned national recognition as the leading Hybrid dealer, they are also the top selling Ford dealership in Alaska, Idaho, Northern California, Oregon, Montana and Washington.
That’s no small potatoes! Here’s a deeper look into the story that comes from this car lot on 7th Ave in Longview as they celebrate their 40th Anniversary of business and are the April issue Sponsor! (See cover for special ad).
Their slogan, “Our reputation rides with you” speaks simply for itself.
“Our customers come first”, said Pat Sari in a recent interview, “and we are really blessed to have some long term employees with us to help take care of our clients”.
The goal of Columbia Ford is to offer more choices under one roof, and if you’ve ever walked their lot, you know that they take this goal very seriously.
Part of offering a variety of choices to the public is their competitive pricing. This competitive pricing also plays a huge role in their commercial fleet sales department.
Working “behind the scenes”, a commercial fleet department services Washington state government, as well as national sales offered to a multitude of national fleet venues.
Columbia Ford pits themselves against approximately 15-20 dealers in Washington state to win government contracts for cars and trucks.
“Washington is a very ‘green’ state,” Pat Sari emphasized, “so the governor passed into law the hybrid requirements for state patrol cars and trucks”.
Who receives those government contracts to provide those hybrid vehicles, such as the popular Escape or Fusion? Columbia Ford comes out on top, offering some of the most competitive pricing and lower sales tax.
“The sales tax that is generated on every vehicle sold in those contracts stay here and gets to work locally,” explains Phil Sari.
The amount of local sales tax that is being generated from our local Columbia Ford is enormously beneficial to our community.
And that’s another thing that the Sari family at Columbia Ford is dedicated to. Our community.
Brothers Pat Sari, Phil Sari, Steve Sari and their brother-in-law, Peter Rybar are all involved and dedicated to our community.
Their love for our community is reflected in the involvement in governing boards of nonprofit organizations and civic and youth activities across the area.
When asked what makes them ‘different’ from others, Pat Sari emphatically responded, “We’re here and reachable every day. Our customers come first”.
Personally, I can attest to that philosophy. Columbia Ford has bent over backwards to ensure that my family was more than taken care of as just “customers” – they made sure we were treated like dear family.
Visit the lot and wish the Sari family a “Happy 40th Anniversary” of business, and tell them we sent you! ☺
Columbia Ford is found at:

Meet ‘the man’ behind Newrock Homes and get the scoop on their new location
January 1, 2012 by Sandy Allen · Leave a Comment
I can honestly say that I am not sure that I know anyone who works as hard as Eric Pucci.
Not only is he a Businessman, he is a true entrepreneur with a servants heart.
Owner/Builder of Newrock Homes, Inc. & Designated Broker/Owner of RE/MAX Premier Group, Pucci has a natural “eye” for opportunity and is not afraid of failure. Newrock Homes recently relocated to their newly remodeled office building at 842 Washington Way, Suite 150 in Longview, WA. (A new venture that Pucci is looking forward to here is a “hand-pressed” martini bar with upscale appetizer menu, on the north end of the Washington Way property. Keep an eye out!)
It goes beyond talent, hard work and a “can-do” attitude to be a respected & successful leader and businessman, as Eric Pucci is known for.
Being the humble man that he is, Pucci states that 100% of his success (personally & professionally) is directly attributed to the support he gets from his beautiful wife Joanne, and the people he has surrounded himself with.
Pucci feels blessed to share his success with those that are by his side.
“Our parents raised us to make a conscious decision about the people that we associate ourselves with, and that really resonated with me as I got older” he says.
Moving to Longview from New York in 1990, Pucci had quit school to go to work. However, his Mother talked him in to going back to school and getting his diploma. After doing so, he went to work for Coprintco here in Longview and eventually obtained his real estate license.
In 2006 Pucci took on a partner and Newrock Homes, Inc. was born, building over 100 quality homes their 1st year!
In 2008, Pucci bought out his partner, and their reputation as a “quality” home builder continued growing, causing them to become the most sought after builder in the area.
“Thank goodness for technology, otherwise I’d need a good pair of running shoes to keep up with him,” says Shirley Osborne, Administrative Secretary for Newrock Homes, Inc. & RE/MAX Premier Group.
One of many comments shared by a satisfied customer reads as follows:
“As a Building Chief Engineer on (2) 52 Story “Class A” High Rise Buildings in downtown Los Angeles, my demand for quality workmanship is always a high expectation.
I commend Newrock Homes for taking this huge challenge working with someone out of state with limited supervision and was able to build my “Dream Home” without any flaw.
All of this could not have been accomplished without the superb supervision, vast knowledge and attention to detail by the Newrock Team on site and performed by all the different trades brought in to take part in constructing my “Dream Home”. You can be assured, that by having Newrock Homes build your “Dream Home” to your specifications, that you can be proud to show Family and friends the final product.”
—Joe Q., Pierce County WA
The Cowlitz County Contractors Association recognized Newrock Homes, Inc as Builder of the Year in both 2009 and again in 2010.
In 2008 Pucci also made the decision to buy the local RE/MAX Real Estate franchise from then Broker, Carolyn Levno, and became the Designated Broker of the now RE/MAX “Premier Group”. Many of the same 15 Real Estate agents at that time are now Brokers still operating in his office today due to his positive employment practices.
Pucci and his family are also heavily involved in the community, serving on the board of Habitat for Humanity (Cowlitz County). Newrock Homes participates by donating free labor; drawing of blueprints and roofing those homes. Pucci’s wife, Joanne also serves in the Junior Service League and The Progress Center, as well as chairing the 2011 Festival of Trees. Eric and his wife Joanne have been married for 18yrs and live on a farm in Silver Lake with their 2 daughters, Mercedes & Alexis and raise Belted Galloway cattle.
When asked what his “why” is in life, Pucci said “ I want to leave a legacy for my children.”
If you are considering new construction(or remodeling the one you are in) Newrock Homes will not build you a house, they will build you a Home.
And if you are considering buying or selling any type of Real Estate, the team at RE/MAX Premier Group will be there for you every step of the way.
You will find them both in their new location at 842 Washington Way, Suite 150, in Longview WA.

Chevy celebrates 100 years!
January 1, 2012 by Valley Bugler · Leave a Comment
1911-2011:
Happy 100th birthday, Chevrolet
Over 200 million Chevrolets have been sold since the brand was founded, and today one Chevy is sold every 8 seconds around the world.
The company was founded in Detroit in November 1911, by racer Louis Chevrolet and General Motors founder William C. Durant. The Chevys they produced quickly earned a reputation for performance, durability and value.
After 1911, Chevy’s timeline includes:
1918: GM buys the company, and its cars compete successfully with Ford’s Model T.
1933: the 9 millionth Chevy is built, a nine-fold increase from 1932.
1937: Chevrolet Plant #4 in Flint, Mich., is among those hit by the United Auto Workers slowdown strike.
1950s:Chevy sponsored Dinah TV show.
1953: The Corvette sports car with a fiberglass body is introduced. After many changes over time, it remains Chevy’s ultimate muscle car.
1956: The Chevrolet Bel Air was introduced.
1963: One out of every 10 cars sold in the United States is a Chevrolet.
1965: Almost 11 million Impalas are sold, a single model record for a car.
1970s: The last era in which GM could boast it sold the best-selling car, the Impala.
1984: The first Chevy Nova was produced at the GM-Toyota joint venture plant in Fremont, Calif.
1999: When SUVs were all the range, the Trailblazer became a hot ride.
2009: China becomes the brand’s third-largest market, after the United States and Brazil.
2010: Production begins for the plug-in hybrid Chevy Volt.
2011: Chevy Spark all-electric car announced.
To take a Chevrolet out for a test drive, contact your local Car Dealer for the best incentives and local service.
Remember, keeping your dollars local keeps our economy strong!
Will you be required to swipe your license before filling up?
January 1, 2012 by Valley Bugler · Leave a Comment
Enter “Post-Pay”, the new gas pump technology that requires gas customers to swipe their driver’s license before they fill ‘er up.
That’s right – no more dashing allowed. Unfortunately, for many gas stations around the nation, and we’re sure across the world, the illegal infraction of pump-and-run is common.
Although most of us will never consider such a fraudulent activity such as stealing, others do not hold the same value system.
The first of these stations taking the swiping pumps are in Saginaw, Michigan – and owned by Paxson Oil.
In order to unlock the pumps, customers must swipe their driver’s licenses. Then pump their gas. When finished, they pay with the cashier.
This kind of new technology will eliminate the need to “pre-pay” with a certain amount on the pump, then pump – then head back to settle up with the cashier again.
The Paxson Oil Company’s President , Bob Hohn, also inventor of the Post-Pay, claims the information is not viewable by the cashier, and is not recorded for any other purpose than to track down pump and run people.
Here’s the interesting question – would you swipe your license before pumping gas into your vehicle?
Do you consider it an unnecessary measure, or do you appreciate the opportunity to have one less trek to the cashier?
Is this “new potential invention” something that would be a good fit for the society of 2012 in America? It will be interesting to follow the reactions of the people in Michigan, as they fill ‘erup at the Saginaw locations.
It poses an interesting subject for discussion – we would love to hear your thoughts!
Send them to:
editor@valleybugler.com
*Editor’s Note: Couldn’t help but chime in here. Although this type of system would be a good method to catch the “bad guys” who run from paying-for-pumping, it makes me a tad bit nervous to see what the information may be used for….in other instances.
Do I really want everybody to know where I am filling up my vehicle? Is this imperative information for the government to have available for its use? Will it be of greater benefit or potentially greater threat?
I will continue to watch and listen as those using these systems share their thoughts, and others voice their own opinions on the subject. ☺
Savvy Designs branches out into new Retail Shop: The Savvy Dog
January 1, 2012 by Michelle Myre · Leave a Comment
“I love your shop, it really is just darling!” exclaimed new Savvy Dog customer, Michelle Carson.
During the time that I came in to interview shop owners, the Skinner family, Miss Carson was checking out and made her statement to Cyndi Skinner at the cash register.
That statement really sums it all up regarding this fantastic new Pet Shop that is offering another locally owned resource for Pet Lovers.
Although the focus is on the canine variety of our furry friends, The Savvy Dog also offers cat food and accessories, natural healing products such as lavendar calming collars and essential oils.
“As much as humanly possible, we have kept everything that we offer in this store American owned, American made, and locally created,” stated Cyndi Skinner, owner and operator in the recent interview.
True to that statement, there are beautiful artwork on the walls, painted especially for The Savvy Dog by local Ethel artist, Stephanie Mcleod, as well as locally crafted with beautiful material, collars and leashes.
Bags of American made pet foods grace the open air racks, and include one of the only certified organic pet foods available on the market today.
“They offer all locally made items here, and I appreciate it,” offered customer Michelle Carson when asked what she liked about the store.
The Savvy Dog also is known as the one and only Savannah Skinner’s “The Savvy Dog”, a grooming operation that grew into what is now The Savvy Dog. Offering grooming and pet supplies and accessories, they can now offer the best of both worlds for pet lovers.
Both mom and dad Skinner are proud of their “little girl”, and co-owner of The Savvy Dog, and owner Savvy Designs, Savannah.
“Savannah has a very strong work ethic,” said mom Cyndi Skinner, “you won’t find many 25 year olds that work and operate two businesses with the dedication and hard work that she does! For goodness sakes, she was in here tiling the floor on her birthday!”
The entire shop offers a delightful experience for browsing, and includes a fantastic “Snack Bar” as shown here. Doggie and Kitty owners can belly up and offer a sample to see which treats appeal the most to their furry darlings.
The Savvy Dog also features a local community fundraiser program with their absolutely gorgeous doggie beds.
St. Vincent de Paul’s, a local charity that feeds and clothes thousands in our area, is an integral part of the process in making the beds.Serta and another furniture manufacturer donate the mattress roll ends, fabrics and interior materials to St. Vincent de Paul’s, who in turn creates the dog beds.
The doggie beds are built as a part of the community outreach and training program through St. Vincent de Paul’s, and 50% of all the proceeds are poured right back into St. Vincent de Paul’s – keeping all funds raised local and helping a local charity.
“Our hopes for 2012 are to grow and become even more involved in the community,” glowed Cyndi Skinner, with nods from husband Todd Skinner and daughter Savannah.
To visit The Savvy Dog, visit their new shop location at:
