Facebook Tip: Use Facebook as Page
June 1, 2011 by Valley Bugler · Leave a Comment

In April I wrote “ What’s new with Business Facebook Pages?”. I outlined latest and greatest features of our favorite social site. This month I want to dive deeper into one of most game changing features: “Use Facebook as Page”.
Businesses can now interact with others on Facebook (almost) as if they were personal accounts. Pages can now follow other pages. This is a big deal for networking. You no longer have to like a business as just an “individual”. This is a great addition for business-to-business networking. And “following” is just the beginning.
First logon to FB. From the Account menu (upper right hand corner) you can select “Use Facebook as Page”.
Anti-Warning: Nothing to worry about here, you can just as easily switch back and forth as often as you wish. After clicking on “Use Facebook” as page you will see a list of all of the pages that you admin. Click “Switch” to the right of the page you want to rock. FYI: You can only use as one page at a time. When you first make the switch you’ll notice the red alerts (by the Facebook logo) have changed a bit.
The middle “Message Icon” is gone. The Friend Request has changed to New Fans, and the the Globe Notifications now show you recent activity about your Page.
#1 New Fans – The Red 64 shows that we have 64 new fans. Thank you! Thank you! You can see your newest fans and even send them a thank you message. If they are your personal friends you can can thank them. If they aren’t your friends you can still give them a shout out on page’s wall. To do so click “share profile”. It will post their picture and your note on your Page’s wall.
#2 Notifications – Click on the globe see who is talking about your page. A quick click might tell us 5 people like one of our Wall Posts, another 5 like a link, and another posted on our wall.
The above is a lot of “can do”, but what “can you NOT do”?
There may be more or less limitations, these are from my own findings. At this time you can’t post on your fans wall, unless their privacy settings allow for all user to make wall posts.
What about using Facebook as a page on mobile.
At this moment in time the Facebook mobile app and mobile version of FB doesn’t offer this functionality. You can however use Facebook as a page if you switch to the Desktop version of Facebook from your phones browser.
Did you learn something?
I hope that you have, ~:-) If you’d like to learn more about improving your business’ presence on Facebook, I invite you to like omOrginals on Facebook and download our free eArticle, entitled “Facebook 4 Business: 14 Ways to grow and cultivate your fan base” and check out some of our upcoming Facebook classes for June @ omOriginals.com, as shown by the ad on this page.

Play Ball – Go Bears!
June 1, 2011 by Valley Bugler · Leave a Comment
Last year, Cowlitz County was blessed with its very own West Coast League baseball team – the Cowlitz Black Bears! If you didn’t get to see a game last year, you missed out.
Collegiate level players battle it out on the diamond while fans engage in boisterous shouting matches and family friendly games that beckon anybody to participate.
It’s remniscent of “baseball from my past”. The kind of baseball game where it didn’t take two hours to go get a hotdog and soda. The kind of baseball game where you felt like you were a part of the action on the field, and did your part with cheering on the team.
Because they can hear you.
It’s like the baseball from your past – all over again! The smell of that leather mitt, and the anticipation in the air – it just oozes nostalgia.
Family friendly pricing making it actually affordable to come to a game and enjoy the concession stands as well. There are games for kids, and you can’t miss Corby, the lovable Black Bear that roams the stands causing children of all ages to throw out some high-fives.
Kids can also apply to join Corby’s Kids Club and gain a membership that sports a t-shirt, drawings and a chance to throw out a first pitch at a Black Bears game during the season. More info online at:
cowlitzblackbears.com
Our family went quite a few times last season and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. On a sunny summer evening, it’s the perfect entertainment for everybody.
The concessions were affordably priced, especially during the $2 Tuesdays, which quickly became a local favorite. If you live here, or are just visiting and enjoying the sites, be sure to stop on by the Story Field at Lower Columbia College, found just off Washington Way.
Listed below are the promotional nights, so you can best plan for your calendar this season. Be sure to go online and see the dates that the Black Bears are playing at home, so that when you show up at the park, somebody’s there…
Let’s have some fun at a Cowlitz Black Bears game this summer, and help create some nostalgia of our own!

The amazing golf ball
June 1, 2011 by Valley Bugler · Leave a Comment
A golfer, playing a round by himself, is about to tee off, and a greasy little salesman runs up to him, and yells, “Wait! Before you tee off, I have something really amazing to show you!”
The golfer, annoyed, says, “What is it?”
“It’s a special golf ball,” says the salesman. “You can never lose it!”
“Whattaya mean,” scoffs the golfer, “you can never lose it? What if you hit it into the water?”
“No problem,” says the salesman. “It floats, and it detects where the shore is, and spins towards it.”
“Well, what if you hit it into the woods?”
“Easy,” says the salesman. “It emits a beeping sound, and you can find it with your eyes closed.”
“Okay,” says the golfer, impressed. “But what if your round goes late and it gets dark?”
“No problem, sir, this golf ball glows in the dark! I’m telling you, you can never lose this golf ball!”
The golfer buys it at once. “Just one question,” he says to the salesman. “Where did you get it?”
“I found it.”
A blast from the past of Castle Rock!
June 1, 2011 by Valley Bugler · Leave a Comment
The Castle Rock Exhibit Hall has a large and nearly complete collection of past issues of the Cowlitz County Advocate. Up to now, we have excerpted stories from exactly 100 years ago. However, we have only two individual issues from 1911. So for 2011, we have gone back to the 1909 issues, of which we have nearly a complete run.
Please note: EVERYTHING on this page is from 1909, except for the full color advertisements supporting this page.
TALK ABOUT NERVE!
(June 3, 1909)
Talk about nerve! The Chehalis correspondent of the Oregonian has a cheek that would make a mule blush with shame. While the square timber from Collins & Byerly’s mill at Ostrander was at the depot in Chehalis a photographer took a photograph of it, and the enterprising reporter sent it to the Oregonian with a statement that it was a product of Lewis county’s woods and was cut at Ostrander, Lewis county.
The aforesaid reporter is either an ignorant ass or a cold-blooded liar. You can take your choice. We are informed that the mill at Ostrander is the only one in this part of the country that can cut such a long piece of timber. And it is all in COWLITZ COUNTY, too.
Obituary of a noble dog
(June 10, 1909)
In the death yesterday of “Old Shot,” as he was familiarly known, a cross between a water and a cocker spaniel, Vinton Davis lost one of the most intelligent and valuable dogs in this part of the country. There undoubtedly has been more birds killed in front of Old Shot, and he has hunted for more different sportsmen than any dog in the state of Washington. Every child and man in this vicinity knew Old Shot and was his friend. Many a noble deed could be written in this dog’s epitaph. Shot was 11 years old, and perhaps more widely known than any dog in this state
SHORT STORIES (June 1909)
* Dean Swift, of Woodburn, Oregon, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Swift, here several days the first of the week. Dean is getting fat, and looks like the Oregon climate agrees with him. He is living in the best part of Oregon, though, and that may account for it.
* “Dad” Peaslee came down from Toledo in his big auto carriage one day last week, and astonished the natives by the hill climbing and other stunts he performed with it, not the least of which was running up the steep hill this side of Ed Huntington’s with apparently little difficulty.
* Dr. Willis Wilson will be at Beebe-Van Atta Drug Store until further notice prepared to do all work pertaining to vetinary lines.
* The saloonkeepers in this city have all complied with the law relating to removal of screens and curtains, and now all their proceedings are an open book, where all may read who wish.
* The Seventh Day Adventists, who have been holding meetings in their big tent on the Carson property at Front and A streets for several weeks, folded their tents and went to Toledo the first of the week
* Messrs. T.W. Robin, A.W. Carner, C.R. Bell, G.F. McClane, G.L. Buland, Enoch Shintaffer, Ike Imboden and J.H. Quick went to Kelso last Saturday afternoon, to attend the meeting of the Good Roads Association, and all had a splendid time. The first four named went down in the mayor’s dandy auto, while the last went in J.H. Quick’s fine carriage.
* Since D.J. Hille’s house and fence have been so nicely painted they look good enough to eat. And the new concrete walks look almost too good to walk on. “Dave” never does things by halves, and as a consequence everything about his home looks as bright as a new dollar.
* L.C. Bricker was arrested at Silver Lake Tuesday, by Fred Hatch, deputy fish commissioner, for violating the fishing laws by catching perch out of season. He was brought to town, tried by Justice Richardson and fined $15 and costs, which he paid and left for his home a sadder, poorer, and, it is hoped, wiser man.
Longview boy lends helping hand in new Missouri home
June 1, 2011 by Valley Bugler · Leave a Comment
At Left: Seven year old Jaden Hoseney (top left) knows all about pitching in and helping out friends and community. The Hoseney family, Longview natives transplanted to Poplar Bluff, Missouri recently found themselves in the middle of some of the most horrific and severe flooding the area has ever seen. Jason Hoseney, Three Rivers Community College Vice-President, praised the athletic department for gearing up and helping execute the long and arduous process of filling sandbags to help levees that have breeched and broken. With the levee on the Black River falling in several places and over a foot of rain having fallen in late April, every bit of help was needed. Hoseney’s seven year old son, Jaden, was right at his fathers side and threw every ounce of his small-man frame into the work. Three Rivers College Assistant basketball coach thanked the various athletes for giving back to “our community by volunteering. You guys sure can make sandbags faster than most”. Need fishing licenses
June 1, 2011 by Valley Bugler · Leave a Comment
A couple of young fellers were fishing at their special pond off the beaten track when out of the bush’s jumped the Game Warden !!
Immediately, one of the boys threw his rod down and started running through the woods, and hot on his heels came the Game Warden.
After about a half mile the fella stopped and stooped over with his hands on his thighs to catch his breath and the Game Warden finally caught up to him.
“Lets see yer fishin license, Boy !!” the Warden gasped.
With that, the fella pulled out his wallet and gave the Game Warden a valid fishing license.
“Well, son”, said the Game Warden, “ You must be about as dumb as a box of rocks !! You don’t have to run from me if you have a valid license!”
“Yes Sir”, replied the young feller,” But my friend back there, well, he don’t have one”…
Art World Fashions Today
June 1, 2011 by Valley Bugler · Leave a Comment

There are so many things come to mind when you think of the word “FASHION”.
The high-powered world of Women’s Fashions when we see the Runway Events taking place every spring, the elegant silhouettes created by the many Designers here and in Europe.
The colors for this season seem to be Black and White and Tan.
According to the Ads there is beauty to be had at every size. The Red Carpet becomes a reality for every woman.
Then too, there is the beautiful world of interior design, a world that is dear to our hearts. It is the time of year for Seattle Design Center’s Northwest Design Awards, which bring the latest trends in the Interior Design world directly to us as entrepreneurs in that area.
In case you didn’t know, white walls are out, unless you go completely white. I mean white walls, white floors, white window coverings, and white pots for Banana Palms (silk of course). You can even get your laptop in a white leather case!! (See photo at right: “White on White”)
It’s the time of year for graduation exercises at the local college and we have young grads coming into our store with their Resumes, looking for work for the summer. Each one is fresh, eager, and vastly interested in the world of fashion in any of it’s many facets.
here are those who are interested in Interior Design Planning and Layout work, and those who love to go into a home and proceed to build a beautiful model with their ideas presented to anyone who will listen. There are those who are interested in Fabrics and what can be done with each and every type of yardage, from upholstery for newly designed (from scratch) furniture, to re UP jobs and elegant sheers for window coverings. There are those to whom color is the basis of every design for anyone’s home. They listen to the vibes of light, artificial and sunlight, how it enters a room, and how to complete a room, maybe with just the addition of a gorgeous blown glass bowl to complete the look. It’s a beginning for any grad to find their niche.
Then there is Art, for the walls of any room, be it commercial or domestic.
You can fill a room with $30,000 worth of furniture, but if there is nothing done to select the background color of the walls, and the art that hangs there. It isn’t finished. The decoration of walls is one of the most absorbing duties of any Interior Designer.
Then there is the Art World of the Consultant, one who has extensively studied the many art styles and historical contributions to our modern society from the past. This person is up on the latest type of paint in use today. The latest forms created by those in the Glass Industry, the different types of sculptural materials in use today for use in-or-out of doors. These people often work with architects for the decoration of city streets and parks. There is a whole world of beauty in our towns today.
Visit Teague’s Gallery anytime to see examples of fine arts and some of the latest “fads” in Fashion! Located at 1267 Commerce Ave, Longview.
