Rider increases strength in anticipation of 60 @ 60 benefit ride

Shown above riding at the 4,000’ level on the southeast side of Mount St. Helens with the Smith Creek drainage in the background, Castle Rock’s Jim LeMonds has agreed to provide readers with regular updates about preparations for his 60 @ Sixty ride in July. LeMonds will attempt to ride sixty miles of trail in the Cascades on a mountain bike in a single day to celebrate his sixtieth birthday. He is using the event to raise money for Friends of the Castle Rock Library, Girls on the Run of Southwest Washington, and CurePC (pancreatic cancer).org.

Tim Sutinen, of Longview, Washington, has announced his candidacy for State Representative Pos. 2 in the 19th Legislative District, which covers Pacific and Wahkiakum Counties, and parts of Cowlitz and Grays Harbor Counties. Sutinen’s campaign web site, www.TimSutinen.com, went live earlier this week.

Sutinen says he will run an independent campaign under the Tea Party banner. “This designation reflects my dedication to limited, reasonable government better than any political party that exists,” he explains. Sutinen says that the Tea Party movement proves that Americans from across traditional party lines can work together to “defend freedom and fight irresponsible spending.”

Art in the Park! Call for vendors

The Columbian Artists Association and the Longview Parks and Recreation Department are seeking artists to exhibit and sell their fine arts and crafts at our 2nd annual juried “Art in the Park” event.  The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 14 from 10:00 am.- 5:00 pm at Longview’s gem, Lake Sacajawea Park.

The Castle Rock Fair has picked their theme for this year: “Now and Then in 2010”, as suggested by Colleene Armstrong. We need some theme decorators – give Yvonne a call if you have ideas or want to help out – 274-4042.

There will be some changes in the premium book. The open, 4-H and FFA animals and 4-H and FFA other departments will not be printed in the main book. Copies will be made and handed out to the 4-H and FFA leaders, fair grounds and the 4-H extension office. They will be ready June 1st.
