The National American Miss pageants are for “Today’s Girl” and “Tomorrow’s Leaders”. The pageant program is based on inner beauty, as well as poise and presentation, and offers an “All-American spirit of fun for family and friends”. Emphasis is placed on the importance of gaining self-confidence, learning new skills, learning good attitudes about competition, and setting and achieving personal goals.
The pageant seeks to recognize the accomplishments of each girl while encouraging her to set goals for the future.
Miss Whitman’s activities include Girl Scouts, Longview Soccer and Hula. She also enjoys riding bikes, working in the yard and spending time with family. She is the spokesmodel and model for K’s Bridal.
Miss Whitman’s sponsors include K’s Bridal, Grandma Manne Zveger, Michael Duff, Lindsey Knudsen, Ruth Moore, Darlene Martin and Sue Whitman (mom).
Katherine is also known for her award that she received through the American Red Cross. She was named SW Washington Youth Red Cross Hero in 2009. She was also the recipient of a rare life-saving award through Girl Scouts, the first one in eleven years, for the courageous act of shielding and protecting her infant brother in a van accident.

Congratulations! NAM is a great system. My daughter’s friend was in it and my daughter and I went to it to see what it was about. IT IS A GREAT THING! My daughter ended up entering the next year and loved it. I really like that they have the right focus. No makeup, no score for appearance. It is about natural confidence and communication. Those are things I can get behind.
She gained lots of confidence and met some great new friends. As a required part of the pageant, she got involved in some community service, which I really liked. It was a great start, and that is now a part of her life.
My husband is in Human Resources as a profession, and he especially liked that the girls all prepare a resume’ and do a job-style interview as part of the NAM competition, rather than an onstage interview.
His take is that if they can learn and practice actual job interview skills before they are teens, that they will not have the interview fears that he sees daily in young adults.
National American Miss is a great program and your daughter will enjoy it immensely.
