Gardening Fair to take place in Castle Rock on April 11th, 2010

Agriculture Researcher, David Stottlemyer, will be speaking on gardening, at the Castle Rock S.D.A. Church on April 11th, from 9 to 4:30.
Mr. Stottlemyer taught agriculture courses at Loma Linda University for seven years and finally retired as a researcher at the University of California in Riverside after seventeen years. He now practices what he preaches in Kooskia, ID and has been offering gardening instruction to groups around the U.S. for more than eight years.

Beauty once lived in a gorgeous castle, where her every need was met. She was showered with attention. Too much attention. The King became jealous and insisted that the cat should go! (It was either him or the cat, he threatened.) He was not going to share. The Queen, unfortunately, chose to keep the King, and poor Beauty was sent packing.

Handling Teens

A wise old gentleman retired and purchased a modest home near a junior high school. He spent the first few weeks of his retirement in peace and contentment. Then a new school year began. The very next afternoon three young boys, full of youthful, after-school enthusiasm, came down his street, beating merrily on every trash can they encountered. The crashing percussion continued day after day, until finally the wise old man decided it was time to take some action.
The next afternoon, he walked out to meet the young percussionists as they banged their way down the street. Stopping them, he said, “You kids are a lot of fun. I like to see you express your exuberance like that. In fact, I used to do the same thing when I was your age. Will you do me a favor? I’ll give you each a dollar if you’ll promise to come around every day and do your thing.” The kids were elated and continued to do a bang-up job on the trash cans.

Coffee is relatively inexpensive and readily available. Even fresh roasted specialty coffee (Arabica) is only pennies per cup when prepared at home. We pretty much take it for granted. Read more
Local mountain biker to mark 60th birthday with EPIC ride for charity

Close your eyes and picture the last trail you were on. Now, imagine that trail being located in the Cascade Mountains and stretching sixty miles, about the distance from Toledo to Portland. And, finally, imagine climbing onto a bike and riding the entire route in a single day. Ouch.
