December 1, 2009 by Valley Bugler

“Thank you for inviting me to your 10th birthday! It was a wonderful evening and I had a great time. I enjoyed seeing the people who write the columns. Thanks again!”
- Brenda Courser, Longview

“Thank you, Valley Bugler. Wanted to tell you how we enjoyed your 10th Anniversary party. Everything looked so nice. The music was very good and toe tapping. The food was GREAT, everything was delicious.
We thoroughly enjoy the interesting and educational articles, also the great humor in the other stories.
Hope you will be in business for many more years to come!”

Rose Tree “New Owners” article by Bill Eagle sparks interest:

“Thank you so much for printing that wonderful article on the new Rose Tree Restaurant Owners! My children recently threw me a 70th birthday party in their beautiful banquet room, and it was fabulous. The food was delicious and the service was great – and we had over fifty people there!

We enjoyed a phenomenal prime rib which was the best my friends said they ever had, Fried Chicken, potatoes, and a delicious Chicken Cordon Bleu. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Rose Tree for helping make my birthday so special”
- Shirley Perry, Castle Rock WA

“This article totally missed the mark by not mentioning Becky Rose as the driving force behind the success of the Rosetree.

This business started unraveling over the last year and a half and in my opinion, due to mismanagement. I hope the new owners can overcome all problems they inherited and can recover the reputation of the Rosetree as a family friendly place with excellent food and respect for everyone who enters.”

Thanksgiving – A Different View

“That is an excellent story. Thanks for posting it.”
- Tammy K., online

“Food for thought that mainstream America has two  fall celebrations aimed at sugar-coating its lurid past: Columbus Day and Thanksgiving. During the ten years I lived with the Hopi and Navajo neither were happening events.

Rather it was harvest that got the people’s attention. Yet another rich bounty, compliments of Mother Nature. Corn, melons, chiles, pinons, squashes, beans. Beautiful food in the colors of the Southwest that the women cooked in highly creative ways.

Food untainted by factory farming’s abuse of animals including turkeys (see the just released reviews on Eating Animals). Or the profit motive that has somehow made the lurid land of crinkly packages seem upstanding.

We might not be able to undo our history, but we can start living more righteously. Yes. Have a righteous Thanksgiving. Eat fresh local food.”
