You will need: a warm day, swimming suits, waterproof shoes, sun screen and giggles.
Cost: $0
Enjoyment: Priceless
The other day the temperature was close to 90 degrees. I called the grand kids and said “Let’s go to the spray park”, which was greeted with a lot of enthusiasm. A couple of years ago a public swimming pool had gotten old and in need of repairs. The city decided to fill it in and with the help of Kelso Rotary, they made a spray park for kids of all ages to enjoy. It is located at NW 8th Ave. and Royal in West Kelso, on the east side of the Twin City Shopping Center.
It was a hot day and there seemed to be a lot of people there but that didn’t seem to bother the kids. There were a lot of spray streams to keep them busy. But I did have to keep telling them not to run, and I heard other parents telling their children the same thing.
All three of the kids had a fun time. The sprays have a lot of variety, some shoot up and some spray or drop water down onto your head. There was a lot for kids to do and we spent about an hour there. I found a shady spot in the grass to keep an eye on them.
When we were done we stopped at Kentucky Fried Chicken for dinner and Great Grandpa (my dad, Clarence Kleppe) joined us for dinner.
I highly recommend taking your kids to the Rotary Spray Park for a fun time on a hot day - which seems to be the ‘norm’ this summer.
I’m sure I don’t know all of the fun things to do or places to take kids in our area – if you have a suggestion and we use it in an article you will receive a great prize. Logon to our website and fill in the suggestion box.

to Jeanette Mahoney,
I am doing genealogical research on KLEPPE family in International Falls, MN. Could the great grandfather CLARENCE KLEPPE mentioned in the spray park article be from International Falls and related to Norwegians from Kleppe Farm?
A wild shot in the dark? Of course, but what is the Internet for but to cut to the chase.
