‘Rescued Paws’ Food Drive
July 1, 2009 by Valley Bugler
Rescued Paws, a local animal adoption group, has partnered with Best Friends Animal Society, an international animal welfare organization for their First Home, Forever Home’s Four-Legged Food Drive.
This month-long campaign which begins July 1st, will be gathering pet food donations for the needy animals in Southwest Washington. Lower Columbia CAP in Longview will distribute all food collected to their clients in Cowlitz and Wahkiakum County, including the Meals on Wheels, FISH, Kalama Helping Hands, and others.
Collection boxes have been set up at various businesses in the area, including Del’s Farm Store, Western World, L & J Feed and PETCO.
For a complete list of the donation sites, visit www.rpaws.petfinder.org.
Every community has a homeless pet problem. The number of pets who become homeless via relinquishment and abandonment has increased because of current economic conditions, foreclosures and joblessness.
This increased relinquishment equals increased death rate for pets in animal shelters. Free pet food can often make the difference between keeping the family pet or relinquishing it. Some people who receive assistance with human food will feed it to their animals and go hungry themselves.
The goals of this project are to initiate a grassroots effort to support food pantry work and current needs for pet food and to help people Keep the Promise to give their pets a loving, forever home.
Just as in all things, when the burden is carried by many, the work load is made light. We hope you will take time to consider a small donation today, or when you are nearby to one of the drop sites.
