From the Editor’s Desk – October 2008
October 1, 2008 by Michelle Myre
October enters the scene, and thus harkens us all one step closer to election month! Political ads are everywhere, nasty slander is not far behind, and there’s a lovely topping of sarcasm to go along with everything. When did electing a president get to be such a nasty event? That would make an interesting study…
You’d think that most of the media is having a love affair with Barack Hussein Obama since he entered the scene. Makes one wonder if they’ve actually studied his proposed policies, platform, prior experience and statements (“57 states”, anyone?), rather than attack everything about McCain or Palin – and proclaim everything about Obama or Biden as beautiful and perfect. There is no perfection – on either side!!
It’s definitely interesting in this tumultuous time of life, to say the least!
Well, nothing’s for certain in this whole scheme, that’s for sure! Here’s something I tell my advertisers – ‘There’s really only one thing that I can guarantee in this line of business. If you put zero dollars in, you’ll get zero dollars back’. I guess there’s something of the same guarantee we can say about this political barrage of a Presidential Race:
You don’t vote, you don’t count.
So, get out there! Educate yourself on the issues that are important to you, and at least vote. You can guarantee yourself that your voice will be heard if and only if you get into the fray and cast your ballot.
That’s a guarantee.
So, in a life that is full of guarantees with small print – make this election count in yours. These are the two guys we are voting for to take over our country in its own economical slump, pay attention to our massive national debt and try to put America back on the world map of foreign relations, not to mention hundreds of other different agendas.
Here are my guarantees:
- whomever is voted into office will get to deal with the Congress and Senate. And most people just don’t recognize that whoever controls the Congress….well, controls!! (Term limits! Term limits!)
- whomever is elected will get the fun times of dealing with a four trillion dollar debt in a sagging economy. yep, fun!
- whomever is elected will get their entire life and every single decision they make scrutinized by the mainstream media.
- whomever is elected has some huge steps to take in order to turn this nation back in the right direction, and in the direction of ‘for the people’, not ‘for the government’.
So, people say we can’t ever have guarantees in life, but I’d say that those pretty much sum up the election in a very small nut shell, don’t you? And remember, just because someone believes something different than you, doesn’t make them “wrong” in any sense. It is a free country to have an opinion and belief on subjects. Remember to keep your respect for one another, and analyze your own feelings and their basis before “laying in” on someone who believes differently than you.
